Help

Short answers to the questions people actually ask. Longer step-by-step versions live in the guides below.

Do I need an account?

No. Search, play, queue, and background listening all work with nothing to sign up for. The only reason to sign in with Google is to see your YouTube playlists, liked videos, and subscriptions in the Library — and that permission is read-only.

Is Dusktune free?

Yes. There is no subscription and no paid tier.

Where is my history stored?

Only in your browser, on your device. Your watch history, queue, playback positions, and settings are never sent to our server. Clearing your browser data removes them.

Does Dusktune download videos?

No. Videos play in YouTube’s official player, so the artists and channels you watch are the ones getting the views. Nothing is re-hosted, downloaded, or copied.

Does it block YouTube ads?

No. Ads play exactly as YouTube serves them — there is no ad-blocking code in Dusktune.

How do I keep music playing in the background?

On iPhone, play a song, tap the fullscreen icon in the player, then swipe up — the video shrinks to a floating window and the audio keeps going. Full steps are in the background play guide.

Can my phone control the TV or car screen?

Yes — that is Phone Remote. Open Phone Remote on the screen, scan the code or enter it on your phone, and the phone becomes the remote. See the Phone Remote guide.

Can I use it in the car?

For passengers, yes — open dusktune.com in the car browser. The driver shouldn’t be watching video or tapping around while driving. The Tesla guide covers car mode and the phone remote setup.

Can I watch on my TV?

Use AirPlay or Screen Mirroring from your phone to the Apple TV — that is the working route today. There is no native Apple TV app, because Apple TV does not allow the web view a YouTube player needs.

A song won’t play — what now?

Some videos can’t be played in an embedded player, and Dusktune skips past them automatically after a few tries. If a whole search looks empty, try different words — a song title plus the artist usually finds it.
